What's with the name?

Some of you may be asking where we got the name Arlo. We aren't fans of Arlo Guthrie. In fact, he's kind of annoying, and I totally don't understand his politics, so it's safe to say he's not the inspiration for the name.

Actually, the commentator for our beloved local soccer team is a BBC sports reporter, Arlo White. We didn't name our son after him, but when we saw Arlo White's first name, we thought it was interesting, old fashioned, and unique. When we shared our name options with others, anyone who knew an Arlo said nothing but good things about the person. We took that as a sign, but we weren't sure until we saw the baby and tried it on for size.

The middle name, Sherman, is a family name on my side. It's my grandmother's maiden name and a tribute to our family heritage. We are related to John Sherman (Antitrust Act, Sec. of Treasury under President Hayes, Senator), Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman (we all know his story), and Ella Bennett Sherman and John Sherman (Ella was an artist and designer while John was a developer of the Cleveland Park neighborhood in Washington, D.C.).
