And What About Soma?

I've been trying to get a good photo or video of Soma and baby Arlo, but Soma has been treating Arlo like the vacuum cleaner. He will approach Arlo with some trepidation, smell him, and get away as quickly as possible. Despite the fact that we tried to give Soma some clues about baby Arlo's arrival (e.g. bringing home an article of Arlo's clothing before we were discharged from the hospital, playing video of a baby crying), Soma's a little unsure about his new sibling. We even bought him an expensive new chewing bone that we gave him as a gift when we brought Arlo home, but Soma saw right through that gesture.

Now that Arlo is home, we are doing our best to give Soma lots of love and attention, keep up with his usual routine, and praise him when he smells the baby. Slowly, Soma is adjusting to life with a new brother, and he seems more comfortable and at ease around Arlo.

One perk of a new baby, whether Soma realizes it or not, is that we are going on small afternoon walks. Earlier this week, we went to one of our favorite city parks, which is more like a urban forest with a beach and meadow that overlooks Puget Sound. Soma had a great time.

Ryan, Arlo (in the wrap), and Soma enjoying a little rest on a bench overlooking the Sound. Soma looks happy in this picture, no?

I think Soma is starting to recognize the benefits of having another member of our pack.

love your wrap! All our babies lived in their slings! Always nice to see someone else who believes in holding their babies!!
